Frequently asked questions

How long does the certification last?

Unstacking Certification is for 3 years.  To keep up with the latest research, methods, and materials, we ask those who are certified in 2025 to renew their certification in 2028.

What's the difference between Debriefing Certification or Unstacking Certification?

Our Debriefing Certification unpacks specifically how to debrief TCKs (usually ages 4-20) in the context of the family unit, and how to utilize the materials we've created in order to lead a 2-day debrief.

The Unstacking Methods Certification will go much more in depth into how to walk alongside any adult (ages 16+) who is processing grief - whether they're an expat (including adult TCKs) or not.

While we'll be giving attendees a packet they can use with anyone they're unstacking, we'll be doing more training on how to use the method in any type of setting.

There is some overlap (such as introducing the Grief Tower model, Red zone/Green zone, and Safe Space Responses), but we intentionally designed the Unstacking Certification with new material taking into consideration all we have learned as we've been doing unstacking session with many Adult TCKs, expats, and non-expats. Whether it's noting the trends we've seen in challenges or how to navigate certain conversations we've had around grief with clients.
*What Does it Mean to be Unstacking Certified?

An Unstacking Method Certification means that the participant…

  • Has completed either 12 or 15 Hours of Training
*Additional 3 hours for the optional Globally-Mobile Considerations add-on
  • Has received access to Unstacking Packet & materials
  • Maintains their knowledge by completing a recertification course every 3 years

What Unstacking Alumni Have to Say...

It is worth it! The accurate  information, the experience that you all bring to the sessions, and the practice of the concepts  all contributed to a  valuable learning experience.
The brain-science informed methodology is so practical for various types of relationships across multiple sectors--friendship, mentorship, debriefing, counseling, spiritual direction, etc.  Well worth the time and money.
Even if you have experience implementing the GT model, you will learn valuable and fresh information in this course.  Having a 5th optional day to focus on global families was a great way to make this user-friendly for participants with different goals. I learned so much!
Do it! I genuinely think out of all the trainings I’ve done the information in this certification is the most valuable for those who are wondering “how do I care for TCKs” of for people who have a lot of hard in their life.
The course is rich with content and supported with an incredible range of gifted and caring trainers that really want you to be successful and competent. You will walk away feeling inspired and well supported to be offering Unstacking to others.
It's a definite answer for every situation. It can vary in different environment for each individual, but it will definitely be a tool or a good 'kick-start' of a deeper relationship and be a good place to develop rapports with the clients.
